I'm copying over the discussion from the facebook page, please if you have any input or ideas for the party let us know.
Amanda Rae Kutzke: Some of us were discussion this summer beer fests and we had some ideas, lets see if i can remember them all, please add to the discussion if you have an ideas for this beer fest.
~$10 donation again for all the beer you can drink, we're thinking we won't get new sample glasses this year, we have about 50 left so we should use those up before we buy more with the new logo.
~group members provide snacks/appetizers for the party (keep the amount of food down)
~give out a raffle, something like when they donate there $10 they get a sampling glass and there name into a raffle.... for a PF shirt, brewing gift certificate or something like that.
~instead of making people fill out ballots, they will just fill out a "Best of Show" award for there favorite beer. The winner will get a plaque and a prize. Also team Kutzke and Box has volunteered to score beers as if it was a BJCP contest for those interested in honest feedback.
any other ideas???
we have a ton of leftover kegs from the NHC so we'll probably just bring those with the jockey box since Team Kutzke won't have a lot of beer to provide (we'll probably have 1 or 2 others)
Tony Kutzke: I like the idea of giving a judging score sheet back on the beers that are entered. I see this going something like this: People interested can submit 1 bottle to be judged about a week ahead of the summer beer fest. We will score the beers, and provide feedback. We can also determine a "judge's best of show" or a few category winners depending on the submittals. Anyone else intereseted in learning about judging could be welcome to help judge and learn the judging process.
I like the best of show idea for the "guests". Its all beer style preference related for those folks anyway. Why bother giving out a number point system when they don't know how to use it? No offense to them, but its not worth our time to add up scores and give people feedback like "I hate hoppy beer, this beer scores 0".
I'll be working on getting a few sponsors for gifts, gift cards, brewing kits, etc. I think a lot of local shops may be willing to contribute a sponsor. I already talked to 5-star Chemicals and they have comitted to providing a prize pack. Of course my awesome plaques can still be made to show the pride of our brewers on their walls.
I think we should advertise this event as our annual "fund raiser" and suggest a $10 donation. Most members put a lot of work into the beer, planning, food, and setup of the event. It would be great to have some funds to put back into the club. Of course we can suggest a voluntary donation. I don't think we have had trouble getting people to volunteer $10 in the past. Most have been happy to contribute.
Tap and I can work on an informational handout on our club. I hate myself for not having one at the NHC. This will allow friends to gather info on our club in case they want to join.
As always, I look forward to an awesome event. No matter what we decide it will be fun and a huge success. Especially if I win some awards.....only kidding. Please provide your feedback so everyone can contribute to the format of our event. Of course, the Pierce's can have final say in the event since they are hosts.....
